Stop 1: Fountain (F)

This fountain is a central point from which you can view, and begin to explore, the Edison and Ford Winter Estates.

 • Listen to the audio

 •
Above: Thomas Edison gathers around the fountain with a group of students circa 1925.

 • The fountain beautified the gardens and created a focal point for visitors, whether they entered the property from the river, or from the road, as you did.
 • The large rocks seen today were added in the late 1920s-- prior to that, it featured a smooth surface (as seen in the image above).
 • Before the Swimming Pool was constructed, it was a favorite place to cool off.

Next, travel toward the river to find the remnants of a pier.
